DE LA DOUCEUR, ENCORE DE LA DOUCEUR – Score: 7/10

BenRiach, la distilerie à l’étrange histoire. Elle fût fondée en 1898 mais ne sorti un Single Malt sous son nom qu’en 1965 et son acquisition par Glenlivet. Depuis, cette distillerie a changé trois fois de mains pour être à présent la propriété du groupe Brown-Foreman (Jack Daniels).

BenRiach, c’est un peu une histoire d’amour-haine entre nous. J’ai goûté de malts exécrables tout autant que d’autres merveilleux. Difficile donc de garantir quand j’ouvre une bouteille si celle-ci me plaira.

J’ai donc tenté ma chance avec cette version classique de 20 d’âge. Pas de finish particulier, directement d’un fût de chêne (sans doute des assemblages internes).

Au nez, une petite senteur de frangipane se dégage nettement. Au palais, nous apprécions la douceur du miel, de l’orge tendre puis une finale citrique, agrume, tendant vers les épices. Tout cela est très doux, sauf la finale un poil trop poivrée à mon goût.

Un whisky sans prétention mais très agréable pour le prix (compter un peu moins de 100€), ce qui est abordable pour un vingt ans d’âge

BenRiach, the distillery with a strange history. It was founded in 1898 but did not release a Single Malt under its name until 1965 and its acquisition by Glenlivet. Since then, this distillery has changed hands three times to now be owned by the Brown-Foreman group (Jack Daniels).

BenRiach, it’s a bit of a love-hate affair between the two of us. I have tasted awful malts as well as wonderful ones. So it’s hard to guarantee when I open a bottle if I will like it or not.

So did I try my luck with this classic 20 year old version. No particular finish, directly from an oak barrel (probably internal blends).

On the nose, a little scent of frangipane emerges clearly. On the palate, we appreciate the sweetness of honey, soft barley followed by a citric, citrus finish, tending towards spices. All this is very smooth, except for the finish, which is too peppery for my taste.

An unpretentious but very pleasant whisky for the price (count just under 100 €), which is affordable for a twenty year old
