Arran 21 years – Lochranza Castle

GASTRONOMIC CHOCOLATE – Score: 8/10

In 2018, Arran embarked on an annual series of four bottles dubbed the Explorers Series, each showcasing exceptional vintages named Brodick Bay, Lochranza Castle, Kildanon & Pladda, and Drumadoon Point.

In this article, we spotlight the 2019 edition, the Lochranza Castle. Aged in Amontillado Oloroso casks for 21 years and boasting a modest 47.2% ABV.

The result is delightfully light, ethereal yet indulgent. Notes of grapes enveloped in chocolate and caramel tantalize the palate. The finish offers a subtle peppery undertone, evolving into a more pronounced note reminiscent of savory umami.

A truly exquisite bottle, one that deserves to be enjoyed rather than merely displayed in a collection.
