Aultmore 2001 16 years – SMWS #73.106

english version below

ON SE PERD DANS CES SAVEURS CONTRADICTOIRES – Score: 3/10

WE LOSE OURSELVES IN THESE CONTRADICTORY FLAVORS – Score: 3/10

While in London, I was invited by my private banker to discover the famous Scotch Malt Whisky Society located above a pub with the sweet name of “The Bleeding Hart” welcoming in its bowels an excellent French restaurant, but hey, this is not the subject of our publication.

The SMWS is therefore a very warm and welcoming little room where one must be a member (or sponsored) in order to be able to taste and buy their bottlings.

That evening, à la carte, a 16-year-old Aultmore 2001 aged in reused Sherry casks.

This is the first Aultmore that I have tasted and it does not leave me with lasting memories. A very unfavorable balance in terms of taste, too much alcohol (yet we only titrate at 55.7%), the chocolate is too bitter, the sherry slightly present and the nuts hide in the wood.

Not convinced by this edition, hoping to taste a better Aultmore during a next tasting.
