UN FUT DE BOURBON INEFFICACE – Score: 5/10

De passage chez l’un des membres de notre groupe facebook préféré “The Whisky Family” pour y déposer une de ces bouteilles, j’ai eu le plaisir d’être invité à goûter quelques drams avec lui (Joel, merci encore).
Il m’ouvrit les portes du paradis, où des dizaines de bouteilles toutes plus alléchantes les unes que les autres (dont quelques solides Bunnahabhain), trônaient dans ce cabinet gourmand.
J’aurais pu choisir de nombreux grands noms mais mon regard se porta vers cette bouteille à l’étiquette verte de Cadenhead contenant un Aultmore 2006 de 12 ans d’âge et titrant à 56,6%
Mon hôte fut surpris de mon choix et je lui expliquais que je souhaitait donner une autre chance à cette distillerie dont les deux premiers essais furent pour le moins décevant.
Celui-ci sera, hélas, encore une fois peu convainquant à mon goût. Attention, c’est un whisky bien fait, ayant une belle longueur et une texture solide, tapissant bien la bouche. Mais les notes de bananes décrites par mon hôte et perceptible fugacement ne font pas le poids face à la force boisée du Aultmore nullement adoucis par son vieillissement en fût de bourbon n’ayant apporté que la couleur paille à ce whisky.
Néanmoins, une maigre consolation est que c’est le meilleur Aultmore que j’ai bu jusqu’à présent.
AN INEFFECTIVE BOURBON CASK – Score: 5/10
While passing by one of the members of our favorite facebook group “The Whiskey Family” to drop off one of his bottle, I had the pleasure of being invited to taste some drams with him (Joel, thanks again).
He opened the doors of paradise to me, where dozens of bottles, each more enticing than the next (including a few solid Bunnahabhain), sat enthroned in this gourmet cabinet.
I could have chosen many big names but my gaze fell on this green labeled Cadenhead bottle containing a 12 year old Aultmore 2006 and grading 56.6%
My host was surprised by my choice and I explained to him that I wanted to give this distillery another chance, the first two tests of which were disappointing to say the least.
This one will, alas, once again be unconvincing for my taste. Don’t get me wrong, this is a well-made whisky, with a good length and a solid texture, lining the mouth well. But the banana notes described by my host and fleetingly noticeable do not match the woody strength of Aultmore in no way softened by its aging in bourbon casks which only brought the straw color to this whisky.
However, little consolation is that this is the best Aultmore I have drunk so far.
