THE GRAPE AND ITS VINE – Score: 7.5 / 10

We come back to our Ben Nevis series with this bottling from the independent German bottler Maltbarn.

A 19-year-old Ben Nevis aged in bourbon casks, of which only 121 bottles have left the bottling circuits.

The tasting of this whisky was done at a whisky fair in Spa, Belgium. The conditions are not optimal, this will be my one and only experience in a whisky fair because the noisy atmosphere and the number of tastings very clearly impair the ability to dissect flavors and scents.

However, this Ben Nevis being the first I tasted, I am more or less confident in the judgment I haveon this one.

A whisky in line with aging in bourbon barrels: fruity, vanilla (but not too much), a beautiful floral presence. We find a nice vinous presence, some granny smith passing by, a nice creaminess in the mouth.

The finish is far too woody for me, which puts a damper on the pleasure of my tasting.

A nice whisky to taste and appreciate at its true value.
