Ce soir, je m’ouvre sur un coup de tête cette quille de chez Jack Wieber dans sa série “The Scottish Malt’s Steamship Line”
Embouteillé en 1998 et durant 16 ans en Hogshead, ce whisky titre à 53,5% à la sortie du fût ce qui lui permet de conserver une certaine puissance sans être trop envahissant au palais.
L’équilibre est bien présent dans ce malt qui laisse transparaître ces racines céréalières mais enrobée de touches herbeuses rappelant la menthe et la verveine. La finale est légèrement boisée et s’accompagne d’agrumes (citron vert, kalamansi,…) lui donnant une certaine fraîcheur tout du long.
Néanmoins, c’est un whisky plus adapté aux après-midi d’été qu’aux soirées d’hiver.

Tonight, I open up on a whim this Jack Wieber bottling in his series “The Scottish Malt’s Steamship Line”
Bottled in 1998 and for 16 years in Hogshead, this whisky is strengthen at 53.5% when it comes out of the barrel, which allows it to retain a certain power without being too overwhelming on the palate.
The balance is very present in this malt which lets these cereal roots shine through but coated with grassy touches reminiscent of mint and verbena. The finish is slightly woody and accompanied by citrus fruits (lime, kalamansi, …) giving it a certain freshness throughout.
Nevertheless, it is a whisky more suited to summer afternoons than winter evenings.
