LA MONTAGNE ACCOUCHE D’UNE SOURIS – Score: 6/10
Murray McDavid, embouteiller prolifique et coloré, nous propose ce Bowmore 2002 vieilli durant 14 ans en fût de chêne et fini en fût de vin rouge du Château Haut-Brion.
Autant dire que ces deux noms ronflant des amateurs de bons vins et spiritueux ne peut faire que saliver.
Dégustation de ce Bowmore dans une foire au whisky à Bruxelles, ma curiosité et mes attentes furent plutôt douchées par la platitude de ce whisky.
Je m’attendais à un mariage intéressant entre une tourbe iodée et un tanin puissant. Las, l’iode est bien présente tout comme l’onctuosité huileuse d’un Bowmore mais rapidement, le côté vineux apparaît mais sans y apporter le plaisir attendu. L’impression d’avoir en bouche le dépôt plus que le vin en lui-même. Les fruits rouges apparaissent fugacement pour se terminer sur une finale (très courte), de chocolat noir.
Décidément, j’ai du mal avec les finish en fût de vin, j’attend le graal dans cette catégorie.

Murray McDavid, prolific and colorful bottler, offers us this Bowmore 2002 aged for 14 years in oak barrels and finished in red wine barrels from Château Haut-Brion.
Suffice to say that for these two sounding names, lovers of good wines and spirits can only salivate.
Tasting this Bowmore at a whisky fair in Brussels, my curiosity and my expectations were rather dampened by the flatness of this whisky.
I was expecting an interesting marriage of iodized peat and powerful tannin. Alas, the iodine is present just like the oily smoothness of a Bowmore but quickly, the winey side appears but without bringing the expected pleasure. The impression of having more deposit in the mouth than the wine itself. Red fruits appear fleetingly to end on a (very short) dark chocolate finish.
Definitely, I have a hard time with the finishes in wine casks, I still expect the holy grail in this category.
