La série “Micro-Provenance” est tout simplement l’édition de single casks de la part de Jim McEwan, l’autre légende du whisky écossais.
Cette version 2005 de 12 ans d’âge est vieillie en fût de sherry. Vu la couleur café du breuvage, nul doute que ce fût était de premier remplissage.
Visuellement, en tout cas, cela donne envie. Le prix par contre est plutôt rébarbatif (on tourne au-delà des 200€) dès lors, les attentes sont hautes pour ce whisky de seulement 12 ans je le rappelle.
Sans surprise, le sherry a fait son oeuvre de manière spectaculaire. Le chocolat est omniprésent en bouche, voire trop écoeurant. La texture est splendide, tout comme la finale d’une longueur insensée. Mais la teneur en tanin est bien trop forte que pour rendre ce whisky agréable au palais.
D’autant que l’alcool n’est pas des mieux intégrés et nous rappelle à son bon souvenir de temps à autres par des notes poivrées bien corsées.
Un whisky qui a du punch, assurément.

The “Micro-Provenance” series is simply the edition of single casks from Jim McEwan, the other legend of Scotch whisky.
This 12-year-old 2005 version is aged in sherry casks. Given the coffee color of the beverage, there is no doubt that this cask was first fill.
Visually, there is no way but be tempted. The price on the other hand is rather off-putting (we turn over 200€) therefore, expectations are high for this whisky of only 12 years old, as a reminder.
Unsurprisingly, the sherry did its job spectacularly. Chocolate is omnipresent in the mouth, even too sickening. The texture is splendid, as is the insanely long finish. But the tannin content is far too strong to make this whisky pleasing to the palate.
Especially since the alcohol is not perfectly integrated and reminds us of its good memories from time to time with well-bodied peppery notes.
A whisky that packs a punch, for sure.
