Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2004 – cask #1667

LES CERISES ET LEUR CARTON – Score: 7,5/10

english version below

CHERRIES AND THEIR CARDBOARD BOX – Score: 7.5 / 10

Back to Islay after this prank on the side of BenRiach and its surprising peaty vintage and heading for the most rock & roll distillery of the island, I named Bruichladdich.

This version is a single cask bottled at 57.5% just 5 years after its distillation for the 2010 Islay Festival.

This kind of bottle being rather rare, the price will therefore be high (it turns around 200€ for 50cl). Obviously, this price is the current one and follows the speculation of collectors for this kind of bottle.

Unfortunately for me, the peasur won’t be worth the price. The approach is rather aggressive, with poorly integrated alcohol and brutally reminding us of its presence.

Likewise, the sherry cask chosen does not appear to be of an exceptional quality. We find the typical red fruits there but accompanied by a cardboard presence, a very tasteless astringency.

The finish will be long and all in all pleasant on dry fruit and oak.

But nothing extraordinary justifies this price.

A bottle to collect rather than consume.
