De passage chez mon cher ami et membre du whisky club “The Highlander’s” à Waterloo, celui-ci me permet de déguster l’un de ses breuvages. Ce soir, ce sera un Caol Ila 2009 de 8 ans d’âge réduit à 46% par l’embouteilleur Signatory Vintage.
Nous allons ouvrir cette bouteille ensemble afin de la découvrir et le moins que l’on puisse dire c’est qu’elle ne fut pas à la hauteur de nos espérances.
C’est d’ailleurs l’un des risques avec la collection “The Unchillfiltered” de Signatory Vintage : c’est un peu la roulette russe avec ces embouteillages qui peuvent parfois être excellents ou exécrables.
Ici, nous serons encore dans la moyenne car même si ce whisky n’est pas mauvais, il manque cruellement de relief et de consistance.
La vanille du fût de bourbon sera belle et bien présente, rafraîchie par des notes mentholées sur une tourbe enveloppante mais trop évanescente pour nos goûts respectifs.

We open this bottle together to discover it and the least we can say is that it did not live up to our expectations.
This is one of the risks with Signatory Vintage’s “The Unchillfiltered” collection: it’s a bit like Russian roulette with these bottlings that can sometimes be excellent or terrible.
This one will be an average success as even if this whisky is not bad, it is sorely lacking in depth and consistency.
The vanilla from the bourbon cask will be beautiful and very present, refreshed by menthol notes on an enveloping peat but too evanescent for our respective tastes.
