Poursuite d’une série de dégustation de whisky fini en fût de vin avec ce Glen Elgin mâturé en fût de Sauternes.
Intéressant de découvrir ce que donnera un whisky d’une distillerie produisant des malts régulièrement épicés, ce qui est l’une des signature de cette distillerie située à Longmorn et un fût de vin doux comme le Sauterne.
Les habitués du blend White Horse connaisse cette saveur typique du Glen Elgin vu la proportion majoritaire de ce single malt dans ce fameux blend.
Le résultat est plutôt mitigé. Des notes étonnament proche du champagne surgissent, sans doute portée par des levures trop prononcées dans le batch et quelques touches de carton pâtes. L’ensemble est sans surprise fort sucrée rappelant le jus de sureau.
Heureusement, l’alcool semble plutôt bien intégré vu l’absence de poivre dans ce breuvage.
Un whisky acceptable mais loin d’être extraordinaire.

Continuing the series of wine cask-finished whisky tastings with this Glen Elgin matured in Sauternes casks.
It’s intriguing to see how a whisky from a distillery known for consistently producing spicy malts, a signature of this Longmorn-based distillery, will fare when aged in a sweet Sauternes cask.
Fans of the White Horse blend are familiar with the typical Glen Elgin flavor, given its predominant presence in that famous blend.
The result is somewhat mixed. Surprisingly, champagne-like notes emerge, possibly influenced by overly pronounced yeast in the batch and a few hints of cardboard. The overall experience is predictably sweet, reminiscent of elderflower juice.
Fortunately, the alcohol appears to be quite well integrated, as there’s a lack of peppery heat in this concoction.
An acceptable whisky, but far from extraordinary.
