Une petite nouveauté ce soir, le Kilkerran Heavily Peated de la distillerie Glengyle du côté de Campbeltown.

C’est toujours un plaisir de se tourner vers cette région atypique d’Ecosse où l’on trouve une distillerie mythique qui phagocyte quasi l’ensemble du marché de la région, j’ai nommée Springbank.

A l’ombre de ce géant produisant les trois marques Springbank, Hazelburn et Longrow, vivote deux autres distilleries : Glen Scotia et la toute récente Glengyle (ne pouvant donner son nom car déjà déposé par un blender) et son produit Kilkerran.

Cette version est, comme son nom l’indique, très tourbée et titre à 58,6%

La bouche est huileuse et douce, l’alcool n’agressant pour rien au monde le palais. Au contraire même, il caresse les papilles, les préparant à la tourbe intense qui va suivre mêlée aux effluves iodées et au caramel beurre salé qui s’installe allègrement.

La finale est intense, toujours sur le caramel et l’iode, accompagné de pain grillé.

Une belle réussite pour Kilkerran qui confirme son statut incontournable dans la région.

SALTED BUTTER CARAMEL AND PEAT – 8.5 / 10

A little novelty this evening, the Kilkerran Heavily Peated from the Glengyle distillery near Campbeltown.

It is always a pleasure to turn to this atypical part of Scotland where there is a legendary distillery that swallows up almost the entire market in the region, I named Springbank.

In the shadow of this giant producing the three brands Springbank, Hazelburn and Longrow, two other distilleries thrive: Glen Scotia and the very recent Glengyle (which cannot give its name because already registered by a blender) and its product Kilkerran.

This version is, as the name suggests, very peaty and has a 58.6% strength

The palate is oily and sweet, the alcohol not damaging the palate. On the contrary, it caresses the taste buds, preparing them for the intense peat that will follow mixed with the iodine aromas and the salted butter caramel which happily sets in.

The finish is intense, still on caramel and iodine, accompanied by toast.

A great success for Kilkerran which confirms its essential status in the region.
