Toujours dans l’esprit sherry, une nouvelle dégustation d’un Mortlach 16 ans d’âge.
Mortlach n’est plus à présenter, il me semble en avoir déjà longuement parlé lors d’une note précédente. Nous allons donc nous focaliser sur cette bouteille provenant de la distillerie.
Un Mortlach vieilli en fut de sherry (de 3ème ou 4ème remplissage, vu la couleur) amenant principalement des arômes de salon de thé. Le thé noir prédomine en finale suivant des notes plutôt caféinée mais légères, plus proche du capuccino voire du chocolat chaud.
Tout avait pourtant débuter sur des notes mielleuses et de caramel mou, mais la saturation du bois aura tôt fait de rapidement instauré son astringence qui dominera tout du long.
Un whisky efficace sans être exceptionnel, il satisfera les amateurs de boisé.

Still around the sherry spirit, a new tasting of a 16 year old Mortlach.
Mortlach is no longer to present, I seem to have already spoken about it at length in a previous note. We will therefore focus on this bottle from the distillery.
A Mortlach aged in sherry casks (3rd or 4th fill, given the color) mainly bringing aromas of tea room. Black tea predominates on the finish, following rather light caffeinated notes, closer to cappuccino or even hot chocolate.
It all started with notes of honey and soft caramel, but the woody saturation will quickly establish its astringency which will dominate throughout.
An efficient whisky without being exceptional, it will satisfy woody lovers.
