Wilson & Morgan nous livre cette version 1984 âgée de 12 ans d’un Mortlach vieilli en fût de chêne neuf.
Plutôt habitué aux versions sherry de cette distillerie dont ils sont, avec Glendronach, Aberlour, Balvenie ou encore Glenfarclas, les grands spécialistes, cette version fût de chêne réduite à 46,0% est donc une petite découverte pour moi.
Comme d’habitude, la texture et l’intégration éthylique sont gracieux, juste une pointe de menthe nous rappelle qu’il y a de l’alcool dans le breuvage.
La fraise des bois et la vanille se positionne d’entrée de jeux puis bascule rapidement sur la réglisse et le chêne pour nous laisser une finale douce-amère mêlée de bois et de miel de thym.
Un whisky agréable sans plus.

Wilson & Morgan deliver us this 12 year old 1984 version of a Mortlach aged in new oak barrels.
Rather used to the sherry versions of this distillery of which they are, with Glendronach, Aberlour, Balvenie or Glenfarclas, the great specialists, this version in oak barrels reduced to 46.0% is therefore a little discovery for me.
As usual, the texture and ethyl integration are graceful, just a hint of mint reminds us that there is alcohol in the brew.
Wild strawberry and vanilla are positioned early on, then quickly switch to licorice and oak to leave us with a bittersweet finish mixed with wood and thyme honey.
A pleasant whisky but nothing more.
