Après avoir déguster le Glenallachie 15 ans qui fut une belle réussite, je me décide à acheter une bouteille de 18 ans pour découvrir la nuance.
Enfin, quand je dis nuance, je me doute que le produit sera fort différent vu déjà la couleur nettement plus claire que le 15 ans
En effet, alors que le 15 ans est un pur sherry, celui-ci est un mix Oloroso, Pedro Ximenez et fût vierge américain, supposé lui amener une touche vanillée
De la vanille, il y en aura effectivement, très légèrement. Par contre, la balance éthylique ne sera pas des plus aboutie, donnant un sérieux coup de chaleur à la dégustation malgré les 46% d’alcool seulement.
Un whisky légèrement fumé, sur les raisins secs et le bois tout aussi sec. C’eut pu être un bon whisky mais vraiment trop déséquilibré à la fois dans la succession des saveurs et dans l’intégration de l’alcool.
Mieux vaut rester sur le 15 ans assurément.

Indeed, while the 15 year old is a pure sherry, this one is a mix of Oloroso, Pedro Ximenez and American virgin oak cask, supposly giving it a vanilla touch.
Vanilla, there will be indeed be, very slightly. On the other hand, the ethyl balance will not be the most successful, giving a serious heat stroke to the tasting despite the 46% alcohol only.
A slightly smoky whisky, on raisins and equally dry wood. It could have been a good whisky but really too unbalanced both in the succession of flavors and in the integration of alcohol.
Surely better to stay on the 15 years-old.
