Glenallachie 2010 13 years – cask #804032

SCOTCH SYRUP – Score: 7/10

Should we still introduce GlenAllachie to the connoisseurs? Probably not. For novices, know that this distillery has become a malt industry unicorn since 2017, having been acquired by the consortium composed of Trisha Savage, Graham Stevenson, and, the legend, Billy Walker.

Some will be surprised (as I was) to learn that GlenAllachie isn’t as old as its Speyside sisters. Founded in 1967, it is younger than some enthusiasts of its whisky.

Tonight, we will experiment with a vintage bottled especially for Belgium, with this cask #804032 of Pedro Ximenez.

Like any good sherry bomb, the notes of coffee and cocoa will be intense but balanced by some subtle pear notes that I hadn’t known until now in a sherry cask, except with Archives’ Bunnahabhain 1987.

The finish will be on licorice and Liege syrup.

Unlike the Bunnah, this whisky, although pleasant, lacks balance and can nauseate some with its overly chocolatey inclination.

Nevertheless, it remains a whisky of good craftsmanship.
